EUROPEAN PHILOSOPHY OF SCIENCE ASSOCIATION |
Steering Committee Elections 2019 < Giuliano Torrengo
Giuliano is running for the office of Steering Committee officer.
I am professor at the Department of Philosophy at the State University of Milan, where I founded the Centre for Philosophy of Time (CPT). I previously held positions at the University of Barcelona and the University of Turin. My main research focus is the connection between temporal experience and the nature of time. As coordinator of the CPT, I have directed Time-Methods, a research project dedicated to the inter-fertilization between philosophy of science, metaphysics, and philosophy of mind, and TempFrame, a research project dedicated to the exchange between philosophy and disciplines such as physics, psychology and linguistics. As a PI of those projects I have supervised the work of three postdocs and two PhD students. I am presently PI of a project on Time and Emotions. I have published three books on time-related topics and several articles in journals such as The Journal of Philosophy, Philosophical Studies, Erkenntis, Analysis and Synthese. I am also working on the indeterminacy of the future, non-causal explanation, the relation between metaphysics and science, and the philosophy of memory. Side interests include joint action, social metaphysics, and feminist analytic philosophy. I have organized one meeting of the International Association of Philosophy of Time, and one meeting of the Society for the Metaphysics of Science. I am currently supervising three PhD students and two post-docs.
If elected as a EPSA Steering Committee member, I will focus on (i) expanding membership, especially in countries and from groups that are presently underrepresented; (ii) strengthening the network between EPSA and other associations across different areas of investigation in the scientific community; (iii) promoting dialogue between philosophy and other sciences; and (iv) fostering initiatives which promote collaboration between young researchers in philosophy and scientists from areas such as physics, psychology, biology, and medicine.
