We are pleased to announce the new President of the European Philosophy of Science Association is Prof Samir Okasha (University of Bristol, UK). He will serve from 2017 to 2021.

There are also four new Steering Committee members: Maria Kronfeldner (Central European University, Hungary), Elena Castellani (University of Florence, Italy), Anna Alexandrova (University of Cambridge, UK); Jan Sprenger (University of Tilburg, The Netherlands). They will serve from 2017 to 2019.

Prof. Michela Massimi (Edinburgh, UK), Vice President of EPSA, won the prestigious 2017 Wilkins-Bernal-Medawar Medal of the Royal Society for her interdisciplinary interests in and communication of modern philosophy and science. Congratulations!

The European Philosophy of Science Association (EPSA) announces 12 EPSA Fellowships for junior philosophers working in Central and Eastern Europe to visit a leading research institution in Western Europe. The fellowship covers travel, accommodation and living expenses for approximately one month (details below) in the academic year 2017/18. During their visit, successful candidates will be members of the host institution and take part in its research activities. In alphabetic order, the participating institutions are:

The fellowships are made possible due to the generous support of the participating institutions, which cover the full costs of the visits.

Eligible are philosophers of science who have been awarded their PhD no more than ten years prior to the application deadline. Applicants who were on maternity or sick leave, or have only worked part-time in philosophy after receiving their PhD, can apply for an extension of the ten-year period. Applicants who wish to apply for such an extension should explain their circumstances in their application and the EPSA committee will consider their case. Applicants must work in one of the following countries: Bosnia and Herzegovina, Belarus, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Hungary, Latvia, Lithuania, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey, Ukraine and the former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia.

1. CV
   
2. A list indicating which of the above-mentioned centres you would like visit and why (you can list a maximum of three institutions and should indicate a preference ranking).
   
3. A letter of motivation detailing your interest in the scheme (maximum of approximately 400 words)
   
4. A research proposal for the time of the visit (approximately 2000 words).
   

Application must be made in English. The above should be merged into one PDF file in the order listed. Results will be announced in September 2017.

The fine print:

• Scholars who held an EPSA Fellowships for junior philosophers working in Central and Eastern Europe in previous years are not eligible.
  
• Applicants need not be members of EPSA at the time of applying. However, successful candidates are expected to become EPSA members before taking up their fellowships (they will be offered the opportunity to do so at a reduced rate).
  
• Successful candidates will be put in touch with their future host institution and the details of the visit (exact dates, financial and accommodation arrangements, visa sponsorship, etc.) should be agreed directly been the candidates and their hosts (without involvement of EPSA). Local circumstances vary and no general commitments about levels of funding can be made.
  
• Those applying for the Unit for Applied Philosophy of Science and Epistemology at the University of Vienna should work in areas related to work done in the project.
  
• Those who apply for the LOGOS Group in Barcelona should work on explanation in the natural and/or the formal sciences.
